Sigh… To be sure, this has a much better chance at success than the Einstein videos. Babies do learn from people. Also, studies have shown that babies stop discriminating foreign language sounds (i.e., stop being able to hear the difference between, say, “pero” and “perro”) around age one, so theoretically, early exposure will help them to maintain phonetic distinction. Still, it seems awfully gimmicky considering that 5-year-olds can usually learn a language to age level (with no accent) within a year or two. It seems a little pointless to be investing so much effort into foreign language before the child can speak anything. If the parents plan to have the child continue throughout his/her life, then it would be useful, but to be frank, I’ve seen this in action in several countries, and parents usually maintain interest for a maximum of a couple years at a time. Then the parents are absolutely shocked when the kid forgets everything within a few months. Honestly, there’s always someone waiting to take people’s money, but I would say, unless you can honestly commit to continuing the child’s FL education through at least adolescence, save your money for piano lessons….
